Every December, SEPTA’s frontline maintenance and surface transportation employees decorate buses and trolleys in festive holiday style and compete for bragging rights at the Authority’s annual All District Holiday Vehicle Competition!
The amount of creativity, time, and dedication that the teams' put into their vehicles [on their own time using materials donated by coworkers, friends, and family] helps employees from different departments get to know and appreciate each other.
Each District works together to come up with a theme for their respective vehicle. The themes have ranged from Scooby Doo and Winter Candyland to Here Comes Sandy Claws and Sesame Street.
BASCSC [Building A SEPTA Community of Service and Camaraderie], which began in 2012, is comprised of SEPTA employees who volunteer their time and energy to work on initiatives identified by senior management as crucial to SEPTA's efforts to not only meet, but exceed customer expectations.
For the past 8 years, BASCSC helped to coordinate the annual competition - bringing cheering, festive spectators to the event and the media. BASCSC also helped in setting up displays throughout the city so that more people could see the buses. Past pop-ups include the Army-Navy Game and the Christmas Village at Love Park.
This year, SEPTA employees, families, and friends were disappointed that the event [that was scheduled to be held at Southern District on December 2, 2020] was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
So, the BASCSC team geared up and found a way to showcase vehicles from years past by way of a SEPTA virtual video greeting card.
The vehicles will be showcased alphabetically by district beginning December 20 thru December 31. We'll post the videos on social media and here. Keep checking back each day to see the latest and greatest! Comment below which is your favorite! Happy Holidays!
