We've Nominated 5 Ways For You to Enjoy the DNC This Week

July 20, 2016

In case you've been too preoccupied playing Pokemon GO to have noticed, Philadelphia is hosting the Democratic National Convention this week. While the Democrats will be nominating a Presidential candidate, we've nominated 5 ways for you to hop on SEPTA and go have some political-themed fun in the city. Last week we posted a Twitter Poll and 21% of you don't know if you'll be staying in Philadelphia this week. Here's a list of reasons why you should because who knows, you may even catch one of the 5,000 delegates or even a Hillary-supporting celebrity on the Broad Street Line.

1. DNC Dinner, Drinks, Desserts, & Deals

Take to social media, search for #DNCdeals, and you won't be let down. Dozens of restaurants, bars, and vendors around the city are using this hashtag to promote specials on dinner, drinks, and more. If you've been enjoying Center City Sips this summer, don't miss out on a special DNC version on Wednesday July 25th in Comcast Plaza, Centre Square, and Dilworth Park. Enjoy $3 beer, $4 wine, and $5 cocktails plus half off appetizers as Center City Sips heads to dozens of restaurants and bars. Want to take advantage of even more discounts during the week? Flash your SEPTA Pass or SEPTA Key at any of these locations for sweet (non-political) Pass Perks!

2. Museums

PoliticalFest gives you access to 7 different museums & attractions from July 22-27th with just one ticket. There will be live performances, games, and interactive displays across Philadelphia that explore the historical election process and even present day political pop culture. Check them out at the National Constitution Center, Pennsylvania Convention Center Hall F, National Liberty Museum, Philadelphia History Museum, The Philadelphia Library Company, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and the Heritage Center at the Union League.

So easy to get to all of these places on SEPTA. The Convention Center is a short walk from Jefferson Station, or you can ride the Market-Frankford Line to 11th, the BSL to City Hall or hop Routes 23, 45, 48 or 61. PoliticalFest tickets are also good for transportation on the Philly PHLASH Downtown Loop and a Philly PHLASH dedicated PoliticalFest loop, making it easy to travel from location to location. A dedicated bus loop courtesy of the Philly PHLASH will circulate to all seven locations during operation hours, 10a to 6p, in addition to the regularly scheduled downtown loop.

3. Philly Feast, United We Eat

On Monday, July 25th from 11-3pm, head over to 3rd and Arch streets for the special DNC Philly Feast, United We Eat to kick off the beginning of the Convention. The usual Philadelphia Night Market will head to Historic Philadelphia bringing a variety of local food trucks, live music, and different retailers from around the city.

How To Get There: Ride the Market-Frankford Line to 2nd Street

4. The Oval

As of July 15th, Eakins Oval has been transformed into a colorful, lively space lined with food trucks, lawn games, a giant mural by Mural Arts, and so much more. During the DNC however, it will host several political-themed events including quizzo on Monday, July 25th at 7pm, $1 off beer from 5-7pm during the week, and more! There will even be a Truth Booth that gives the public two minutes to speak their mind on this years’ election. Be sure to check out The Oval's website for more details.

So easy to get here on SEPTA. Hop Routes 2, 7, 32, 33, 38 or 48.

5. Watch Party

If you want to feel the excitement of the Convention without actually being there, then head over to the Piazza at Schmidts or one of the many local bars and restaurants to attend a DNC Watch Party. Enjoy a social atmosphere and take advantage of some #DNCDeals or Pass Perks while you're out!

To get here on SEPTA, ride the Market-Frankford Line to Girard or Spring Garden or hop Routes 5, 15, 43 or 57.
