Howdy SEPTA Rider! I’m back with a new location š! This week I ventured out to East Passyunk Ave (pronounced Pash-EE-Yunk, for those who didn’t know, because I didn’t š¤£).
East Passyunk Avenue is a popular foodie hotspot located in the heart of the Philadelphia neighborhood, East Passyunk Crossing. The street is lined with various eateries and shops. Whatever style of dish you may be craving, East Passyunk Ave will have the fix.
The street is also home to one of our Perks Partners, A Novel Idea. A Novel Idea is a community-minded bookstore and event space. Their goal is to create and foster a space of diversity and inclusivity. The stores aim is to assist customers to fall in love with books, either for the first time or for the millionth. If you are a SEPTA Key cardholder, you can save 10% on your purchase in-store.
For this trip, I took Route 45 (bus) from 12th & Market. Route 45 is one of our 15-15-5 Routes meaning it runs every 15 minutes or less from 9a-6p, Monday through Friday. You can find the schedule here: PDF. And sure enough - when I arrived at the stop - I only had to wait 5 short minutes before the bus arrived. I tapped on at the validator (have you seen the new validators?) and took a seat towards the front.
The ride was only 13 minutes long. The bus drove south on 12th street which eventually intersects with Passyunk Avenue which is where I hopped off . I checked my phone’s GPS to find A Novel Idea and the bookstore was only 200 ft from where I was standing.
When I finished exploring the store and taking photos, I wanted to take a quick tour of the popular street. From beautiful morals, iconic statues, and a "singing" fountain to charming boutiques and edgy bars, East Passyunk Ave has so much to offer. In fact, on February 28th thru March 11th, East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District will be presenting its 10th annual Restaurant Week! Visitors can feast on a 3-course prix fixe lunch and/or dinner at award-winning restaurants for either $20, $30, $40, or $55. People will have options including indoor and outdoor seating, or some takeout on one of America’s top 10 foodie streets.
After exploring the area, I found my way to the bus stop back to Center City. Finding the stop was simple because I knew the 45 travels south on 12th street and comes back north on 11th street. I made my way to 11th street and sure enough, I found a bus stop within seconds and was soon on my way back to the office.
The cost to ride any SEPTA bus, no matter the starting point, is $2.00 when utilizing your Travel Wallet on your SEPTA Key card and $2.50 when using cash (must be exact change). It is also important to always remember to wear a face-covering when riding ANY SEPTA mode.
This trip was a simple one, and any SEPTA rider, new or expert, could do it with ease. Without a doubt, East Passyunk Ave and its many restaurants can expect to see me again when I am off the clock.
