The federal mask mandate for travelers in the U.S. will now continue thru April 18, 2022.
The requirement was supposed to expire Friday, March 18, 2022.
This federal mask requirement was extended twice before. This new extension coincides with the busy spring break travel period.
TSA is requiring travelers to keep wearing that face mask on planes and in airports until mid-April because of a recommendation by the CDC.
The CDC says it’s working with government agencies over the next few weeks to revise its policy on mask wearing for airlines, railroads, taxis, rideshare, and all other public transportation.
The CDC will consider the number of cases of COVID-19 across the country and in local communities as well as the risk of new variants.
So for now - travelers will need to continue to mask up on planes, taxis, rideshare, buses, and trains as well as in airports, train stations, and transportation hubs.
