Line of the Week: Boulevard Direct

May 10, 2021

This week, we’re exploring the Boulevard DirectService on the Boulevard Direct began on October 22, 2017, serving Roosevelt Boulevard between Frankford Transportation Center and the Neshaminy Mall.

The Boulevard Direct only ends its trips at the Neshaminy Mall from 10a - 8p. Read more about this change here.

The Boulevard Direct service is an enhancement to the Route 14, which also runs along Roosevelt Boulevard. The Boulevard Direct makes eight total stops along its 10-mile route: Frankford Transportation Center, Cottman Avenue, Rhawn Street, Welsh Road, Grant Avenue, Red Lion Road, Neshaminy Interplex and the Neshaminy Mall. The Route 14 follows this same 10-mile stretch - however, it makes over 80 stops. By limiting stops to eight strategic locations along the line, the average Boulevard Direct trip from end-to-end will takes approximately 30 minutes, compared to 47 minutes on a Route 14 bus.

The Boulevard Direct buses run every 15 minutes. It operates with a fleet of 60-foot articulated buses that are easily recognized with Direct Bus branding. These larger buses accommodate a higher passenger volume, and are all diesel-electric hybrids.

If you're planning on riding, there are a few things you don't want to forget.

  • You'll want to remember your SEPTA Key! This is your "key" to not just the Boulevard Direct, but to all of SEPTA! If you're using your SEPTA Key, fare will be $2, your first transfer will be free and your second transfer will only be $1. Not only that, but children under the age of 12 ride free when accompanied by a fare-paying adult!  And now, you can buy a Three Day Convenience Pass which is ideal for individuals who travel on SEPTA less than 5 days a week and visitors and tourists enjoying a multiple day stay in Philadelphia. The cost is $18 and it's good for 24 trips over 72 consecutive hours. Time starts with your first tap. It is meant for one rider. You can read up about fare here. And if you've never ridden the trolley before, check out this informative video on How to Ride!

  • Don't forget your mask! This isn't just to keep you safe, it's to keep everyone who rides SEPTA safe! Make sure your mask is covering both your mouth and your nose.

  • And finally, don't forget to keep social distance!
