SEPTA Files Injunction Seeking End To TWU Local 234 Strike

November 4, 2016

SEPTA today filed a lawsuit in the Court of Common Pleas, seeking an injunction to end the TWU Local 234 strike, asserting that it constitutes a clear and present danger to the health, safety and welfare of our riders and the citizens of Philadelphia and the region.

In the lawsuit, SEPTA notes that the strike has caused people to miss critical medical appointments; is making it impossible for some disabled residents to get to facilities for specialty care, get assistance with fundamental life-care matters and training critical to their efforts towards independence; is causing students to miss school; and presents a risk to citizens’ right to vote in the November 8 election.

SEPTA is asking the court for an injunction ordering TWU Local 234 employees to return to work immediately to alleviate the devastation caused by the strike.

The 4,700-plus members of TWU Local 234 who work in SEPTA’s City Transit Division have been on strike since 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, November 1. The strike has forced the shutdown of city transit services, including the Market-Frankford Line, Broad Street Line subway, city buses and trolley routes.
