Hunger Action Month

September 5, 2019

September is Hunger Action Month – a month where people all over America stand together to fight hunger and dedicate ourselves to a solution.

While 1 in 8 people in the U.S. is food insecure, in our area - Philadelphia specifically - hunger is a crisis faced by 1 in 5 of our neighbors.

Philabundance is the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization, seeking to drive hunger from our communities today and end hunger forever. There are more than 700,000 people in Philabundance’s service area who go to bed at night not knowing where their next meal will come from, or if they’ll have one at all.

In 2018, Philabundance distributed more than 26 million pounds through a network of 350 member agencies, and partnerships with hospitals, schools, libraries and other service providers. Philabundance serves more than 90,000 people each week, 30% of whom are children, 16% of whom are seniors, and others served include college students, single parents and the working class.

Many of those whom Philabundance serves access their food services temporarily, to help them through a difficult financial period due to a health emergency, family crisis or cut in work hours.

Philabundance provides food to 350 member agencies – such as shelters, emergency kitchens and soup kitchens – and at locations where people access other services, including hospitals, libraries and schools.

Here's what you can do to help - Text to Give to Philabundance by sending donate2feed to 44321. Every dollar donated to Philabundance helps provide two meals for someone in need – whether that person is a parent looking to put dinner on the table, or a child receiving nutritious food through Philabundance's kids’ BackPack program.

For 35 years, Philabundance has worked tirelessly to relieve hunger now. In 2019, it expanded its mission to End Hunger. For Good.

Let's help them. Text to give today.
