Philadelphia is always ripe with American history! We never need a reminder of our rich past; the foundation of our nation and the foundation of our city are synonymous. But celebrating America's birthday is always a happy reminder.
So we'll take July 4th this week as that happy reminder and the perfect opportunity to offer you some wonderful historic sites, sounds, and stomping grounds of this country, and of course, how to get there on SEPTA! (Big thanks to Benjamin Franklin for implementing the grid system, making our city, and our bus routes, that much easier to navigate and straightforward.)
There's no better way to kick-off a historic tour of Philly than the Historic District. At the Betsy Ross House at 239 Arch Street, you'll learn about her life as a flagmaker, upholsterer, and the experiences of women during America’s Revolutionary era. Just steps away from the Betsy Ross House at 5th and Market is Independence Mall, where you'll find Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and the National Constitution Center, all within steps of each other! The interactive museum is devoted to celebrating and explaining the United States Constitution - what could be more July 4th appropriate?
Getting to Philadelphia's Historic District is easy on SEPTA. Hop the Market-Frankford Line to 5th Street or Bus Routes 17, 21, 33, 38, 42, or 48.
