Fire Prevention Week 2023

October 12, 2023

For the 24th consecutive year - SEPTA and the Philadelphia Fire Department will be observing Fire Prevention Week (October 8-14) by placing informational car cards in 2,000 SEPTA vehicles.

The cards were unveiled by SEPTA’s Director of Safety Management Systems Dave Hunter, and Deputy Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Jeffrey Thompson.

This year's campaign theme is: “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention,”™ with the goal of educating everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe when cooking.

This is the 101st year that Fire Prevention Week has been observed.

The event was held at Engine 8 Station, 4th & Arch in Philadelphia. That station dates its history back to Benjamin Franklin.

And remember - if you don't own a smoke detector and you can't afford one - call 311. The Philadelphia Fire Department will come to your house to install it FREE of charge.
