For those of you that don't know - The Philadelphia Union is an American professional soccer team based in Chester, Pennsylvania. The Union competes in Major League Soccer as a member club of the league's Eastern Conference. The club began play in 2010 as an expansion team of the league. The Union finished as runners-up in the 2014 and 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournaments. The Philadelphia Union’s 2017 season unfortunately did not end with a trip to the playoffs. But this is a new year!
The Philadelphia Union has made some bold moves, and has set its sights set on bringing a MLS Championship to Philadelphia this season. Not only have they re-signed Andre Blake, their 2016 Goaltender of the Year, but they went out and acquired superstar David Accam, one of the league’s top scorers from the Chicago Fire!! And now the Philadelphia Union has come to terms with a new attacking midfielder, Borek Dockal, a Czech Republic international most recently playing with Henan Jianye in the Chinese Super League!
At 40-1 to win the MLS Cup the Philadelphia Union aren't extreme underdogs, but they aren't the darlings of prediction season either. But the unthinkable does happen in the world of soccer. And in the world of football! Fly Eagles Fly!
Two years back Leicester City caught the soccer world by storm by winning the Premier League after oddsmakers put their title hopes at 5,000-1. They did it with exceptional defense and a rigorous commitment to the counterattack. With the acquisition of Accam, the Union could potentially set up in a similar fashion and might just be the unthinkable surprise of the season. The Union is set up to play a winning brand of soccer this season!
The future is looking bright for the Philadelphia Union! And you need to be there! Where's there? Talen Energy Stadium - a state-of-the-art 18,500-seat Major League Soccer stadium located in Chester, PA. And lucky for you, SEPTA’s Chester Transportation Center is located just a short distance from Talen Energy Stadium!
