Summertime in the City! It’s not for everyone. You’ll notice over the coming days and weeks, a mass exodus (particularly on Thursdays and Fridays) when so many of our regular inhabitants take their clans down to the Jersey Shore. Which is always a good time. But don't think you're missing out - there’s a ton to do around Philadelphia once the warm weather hits.
But if you are sad you’re not pulling out your beach tags every hour, head down to Spruce Street Harbor Park, where you can stick your feet in sand traps, and sit on hammocks over the water. Best part? No shore traffic. Get to and from here on the Market-Frankford Line, and Bus Routes 12, 21, 33, 42 or 25.
Once you’re down in that part of town, lace up your roller skates at the Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest. Get the wind in your face and enjoy the view of the Ben Franklin Bridge. Bonus here – they’re a SEPTA Pass Perks Partner.
If you’re lucky enough to stay in town this weekend, and not fight the droves of drivers heading to the beach, visit the Franklin Flea Market for food, furniture and all other sorts of fun for sale. With its proximity to Jefferson Station, you have your pick of SEPTA mode – Rail, Subway, Bus, the choice is yours.
Also for those who are staying in town this holiday weekend, get your entertainment down at Lincoln Financial Field, where the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship comes back to compete this weekend. A quick trip south down the Broad Street Line. Rolls off the tongue the same way as down the shore, but with less traffic.
If contact sports aren’t really your game, but you still crave the competitive atmosphere, the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair will bring in your entertainment. Just across the street from the Devon Station on the Paoli/Thorndale Line – so you have no excuse. You can even buy your floppy hat there if you don’t already have one on hand.
Moving into the rest of the summer, there’s plenty to look forward to.
Like Philly Beer Week – starts June 3rd! How good does that sound in this heat? Let SEPTA take you to and from participating bars safely. Just plug your destination into our Trip Planner and let us be your ride.
Just be sure to go easy on the sauce next Saturday, because Sunday, June 5th is the Manayunk Bike Race. No one wants to miss watching incredible athletes carry themselves up Lyceum Ave on a bicycle. Take your pick of trains, because we’ve added extra for that day.
Keep your eyes on the concert calendars. Because in addition to the Mann Center Bus Loop, the TLA, Boot and Saddle, and Union Transfer are all short walks from the Broad Street Line. World Café Live, the Fillmore, Johnny Brenda’s are all close to Market-Frankford Line stations. Then there’s the Trocadero, just around the corner from Jefferson Station, so take your pick of Regional Rail, Subway, or so many of our bus routes.
Really though, there’s so much happening around Philly all summer. Check back with our Local Happenings, as the list grows every day. New events pop up each week, and some events may be awesomely underground and under our radar. For everything that piques your interest, come back to ISEPTAPHILLY.COM. We’ll plan your trip, we’ll show you Perks, all while never having to look for parking.
And if your journey takes you outside the city limits, don’t forget that there is now a SEPTA-Uber connection – 40% off to and from select Regional Rail stations.
