This week we are taking a closer look at SEPTA’s Suburban Bus Route 104. This bus runs between down West Chester Pike from 69th Street Transportation Center in Upper Darby and the North Campus of West Chester University. Serving Upper Darby, Broomall, Newtown Square, and West Chester, this Route is great for residents and university students alike!
Before it was a SEPTA Bus Route, the 104 was a streetcar line operated by the Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Company (PTSC). In 1958, PennDOT’s expansion project eliminated rail service on West Chester Pike, and buses replaced all streetcars. Then, in 1968, the government-subsidized SEPTA replaced PTSC. What was previously known as the Route W bus became the Route 104 we know and love today.
On a typical weekday, Route 104 carries 3,186 passengers and makes 110 trips. You can catch the bus every 15 minutes during peak hours, and anywhere between every 20-60 minutes on off-peak hours and weekends. The 104 is SEPTA’s 7th busiest Suburban Transit Route.
So if you're going to the 'burbs, West Chester University, or anywhere in between, let SEPTA's Route 104 take you there!
