Your ISEPTAPHILLY Guide to the 4th of July
It’s the Fourth of July already! And what does that mean? Besides that summer is in full swing (if you hadn’t already taken advantage of Parks on Tap, the Phillies, and Spruce Street Harbor Park, now’s the time!), it also means that the city is primed and prepped to give you another great round of fireworks. And there’s no shortage of options or locations from which to view these impressive sky-lighting pyrotechnics, starting this Friday and carrying on through next week!
Celebrating the nation’s birthday with a citywide festival, Wawa Welcome America! is a multi-day party with more than 50 free events for all ages. From Thursday, 6/28 through Wednesday, 7/4, if you’re staying in the city, look forward to numerous free fireworks shows, days of free museum admission, concerts, block parties, and so much more. Avoid traffic and parking and take SEPTA to the festivities. Simply PLAN YOUR TRIP to discover your best way there.
But specifically to talk fireworks, Wawa Welcome America is planning quite the show on Saturday night, from 9:30p – 10p. In celebration of Independence Day, the sky over the Delaware River will light up with a brilliant display of fireworks. This show will be preceded by the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” at Penn’s Landing’s Great Plaza at 8p.
If you forego the concert, there are still so many places along the Delaware River Waterfront to catch the action. Your viewing options, along with pre-firework activities, are almost endless. Choose from the Moshulu, Spruce Street Harbor Park, Blue Cross RiverRink (it’s Summerfest!), or SugarHouse Casino. And you can always take the sights in from Old City if you’d rather stay removed from the main action (just don’t forget, you’ve got Perks there)!
To get to these places along the Delaware River Waterfront, you have so many options. Bus Routes 12, 21, 33, 25, and 42 all get you close, as does the Market-Frankford Line! If you’re unsure of which of these is right for you and what you have planned in your evening, click PLAN YOUR TRIP and let ISEPTAPHILLY do the legwork.
If you want to mix up your firework-watching with other entertainment, head to the Phillies on Friday or Saturday. This hot weather is perfect for sitting back with a cold drink and a bag of peanuts at a baseball game. And stay put. Once the games are over, there’ll be a fireworks show! Best part is, you don’t have to pay for parking. The best way to Citizens Bank Park is the SEPTA Broad Street Line.
The big Independence Day finale takes place on July 4th on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Take part in five blocks of FREE entertainment, food, and fun for all ages from 12p-7p. Then, at 7p, the party turns into a concert, with performances by Pitbull, Heather Headley, and the Philly POPS BIG Band. All of this is also FREE! The concert ends with the largest Wawa Welcome America fireworks show in more than a decade. That’s something you can’t miss. Get here on SEPTA Bus Routes 7, 32, 33, 38, 43, and 48. It’s also just a short walk from Suburban Station (where you can connect from Regional Rail, Broad Street Line, Market-Frankford Line, and Trolley). SEPTA is even running additional service!
There are so many options to help you celebrate this July 4th. Forget the traffic, skip parking, and let SEPTA be your ride!
